SOrry I've been such a bad blogger. We didnt go into escrow, we are still working on selling the house, but I am feeling better, for whatever reason. I am working on taking care of me me me! Its been super hot, which is a pain, but otherwise, I am happy. Rose is adorable as usual and has finally hit that new word a day thing all my other friends kids hit ages ago. I feel better about that, too.

Hmmmmmm tubbing with the mamas! It rocked. I slept like a baby, I was so relaxed, even after my mocha chai!

OK, here's what I really wanted to post today:

today is the 50th anniversary of the execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, and I'm thinking about them, and I'm thinking about Ethel, certainly a rebel mama by anyones standard. Please forgive my rambling, but I just fet like writing about their story, my thoughts, basically, with a little history plagarized from:

Ethel and Julius Rosenberg are the only U.S. citizens to be executed for conspiracy to commit espionage. The government alleged the couple along with Morton Sobell helped the Soviet Union acquire the secret of the atomic bomb. On June 19, 1953, the Rosenbergs were executed because they refused to implicate others by falsely confessing to giving the "secret" of the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. In a letter they wrote to their sons, Michael and Robert Meeropol, just before they were killed, the Rosenbergs said they died, “[C]omforted in the sure knowledge that others would carry on after us.”

Ethel Rosenberg was Robert Meeropol, Julius and Ethels' older son, said today on Democracy Now that although he is firmly convonced by evidence that his father never had anything to do with "atomic secrets", he is not convinced that his father did not share information with the Soviet Government. The key to understanding this is to remember that if Julius Rosenberg did pass any information to the Soviets, it was during the second world, war, at which time the United States government was allied with the Soviet Union to defeat the Nazis. Most supporters of the Rosenbergs do not believe he had even this involvement, that it was merely his collegiate assosiation with the Yong Communisits League and his union work that made him a target of McCarthyist hysteria.

Ethel Rosenberg was a union activist, a loving mother, a passionate wife. Even the most conservative accounts of their story that I find on the internet say that recent evidence shows she was almost definitely no spy. She was basically a working class Jewish mother and an activist. She was accused throughout the trial of abandoning her children for her activist work (and for espionage work), but by their own accounts, she never ever did. I am remembering her today and renewing my own commitment to work for a world of free thought and expression, and an end to the death penalty. Robert and Michael, the Rosenbergs sons, werre on the radio this morning and were asked to compare the climate under which their parents were executed to the climate today, and they agreed that our current political situation is even more frightening, and that even more rights are being taken away from both citizens and residents of the U.S. Also on the radio was Robert's daughter, Rachel Meeropol, Ethel and Julius' granddaughter, who, as a new attorney, works for the Center for Constitutional Rights, trying to secure basic legal and other rights for post 9/11 detainees in this country.

I feel sure Ethel is proud of her.

I had a lovely busy weekend, last day of herb class (and people raved about my products! omigosh!) and then sunday was santa cruz pride. we saw many men in butterfly suits, we marched with the peace coalition and got a fabulous response then we worked the kdis booth and hung with sleeky, smarticus, hempymom and their assorted bebes. It was fan fan tastic.
