Crass Consumerist Blather and Politics: the good, the bad, the ugly and the Gertie Ball
So! We have made a few purchases lately. One I am especially excited about is our Didymos Sling from the Kids Nature outlet store. It is the best best best! We are especially into the "cross carry" position. It is so comfy and Rose loves it. Yes.
Our other groovy purchase, much less expensive, is the Gertie Ball. We have one with glow in the dark stars.
On to political events!
I was so so so happy to hear on the BBC World News this morning that the Burmese government has freed Aung San Suu Kyi, but as she has said, "My release should not be looked at as a major breakthrough for
democracy. For all people in Burma to enjoy basic freedom - that
would be the major breakthrough". Yeah. In my opinion, the real breakthrough will be when they let her serve as the democratically elected (by like 80% or something) leader she is, and should be. Still, I heard the sounds of the people cheering as she walked freely out of her house for the first time in 20 months, and it made me cry. She is so amazing. Check out more information on how you can help to Free Burma.
On the other hand, on Democracy Now! (scroll down, but also note more about Burma here...), Amy was chatting about the Pentagon's ploy to get exempt from abiding by a just a few pesky little environmental laws, like the Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and others involving hazardous waste and other silly little things. Great. In the name of "saving America from the Evildoeers", we can kill off all the dolphins and tweety birds!!!! GREAT! Ok, sorry, done now. So if you want to, you can call your congresspersons about this, and if you do want to, do it this week, they are voting on this quite soon. More details are on the Democracy Now site. To reach your representative, callthe Capitol Switchboard, call (202) 224-3121.

Well, its Cinco De Mayo, so my mom is making a big pot of chili and we are all having that for dinner. Kick ass. We did watch Red Dust last night. Talk about a racist movie! I mean, I guess a lot of movies made in the 1930's (and now for that matter) were/are racist, but between the portrayal of the "coolie" Vietnamese and Chinese rubber plant workers and the Chinese "houseboy"... sheesh. It was bad. The best thing about the movie was it was pre-code, and you got to see a lot of Jean Harlowe's legs. Yummy.
Today, we watched _All About Eve_. That was a great flick.
I am being beckoned for guacamole, more later... -
OK finally DH is playing with the babe and she has a teething biscuit so I can blog.
Lets seee... Thursday I went to the park with the mamas (the "big blue ball park", named for the big blue balls on the hill there. maybe its not really called that. anyways.. .) Rose is really getting into the park. She loves the sand, swings, other kids... my baby is getting so big!!!
Then we went to gramma and gramps' house, and I got some work done and called into a staff meeting... then went home and watched a video with Mort.
Friday was a wild day! Got up early, went to the doctor's office. Rose has an ear infection. Got our first prescription for antibiotics. Turns out they are still giving kids that same pink syrup I had as a kid. Who knew? Yuk. Anyways! Then we went to the Kind Grind to see the mamas. That was wonderful as always, their pastries are yum yum yum. We had lots of fun and the beach and then we went to N's house all afternoon and she ad I played child care and let some of our friends run errands. It was great. Then it was Friday, and Happy Hour was at my folks, and it was Beltane (warning this site plays bagpipes) so we did a little ritual for healing. I asked for healing for big and small: the Middle East, Rosie's ear infection, and my friend Artspin who is in the hospital, far away, pregnant with twins and I am worried about her.
Anyways, it was a kick ass day and it ended with a scrumptious cake my friend Jeannie made which was chocolate with home made lime curd, strawberries, and whipped cream between the layers and over the top. *oh my god*.
Today! Got up, took DH and Rose to my mom's, and drove up to Berkeley, stopping at the craft store, and went to do a craft project with the Moonbabes. I just got back a little while ago, and we are going to have a stir fry for dinner, and then watch All About Eve and possibly Red Dust.
What an entry!- 11:02 pm
