Month: April 2002

  • I got a note from our tax person, I seem to have handled the tax trauma correctly. Phew!

Here are some old pictures of the babay...

This is from the hospital, very soon after she was born, like maybe 10 hours...

and more, this is like 3 months ago or so and it also shows our messy bedroom...

  • Art Swap for Bloggin Mamas:

    http://www.tingarden.com/clients/consciousmother/mdbacs.html

    have fun!

  • Quizzes, quizzes, and a little white whale on the go...

First off, thanks to BlueR_oses for posting this so I can amuse myself. OK, I got three answers:

    You are Carl Sandburg
You see the world in a different way than your peers and are able to find beauty in the most unusual places!

Yeah.... ok i can see that

    You are Maya Angelou
You have a strong sense of self and have faith in your abilities. You are an optimist and believe that things can get better if people work together. You also have faith in humanity.

yes good but do I have to put my poems on Hallmark commemorative plates? i saw some of those with maya angelous poems on them. seriously.

    You are e.e. cummings
Your use of the English language is not bound to any grammatical or even logical standards. You live your life with rhythym and find yourself constantly searching for
meaning by traveling or in new relationships.

yes! i never captialize, so this must be the one.

Take the Which Poet are You? Quiz - brought to you out of boredom and pretention!

On a more serious note, my mom sent me this Ecological Footprint Quiz it says that if everyone was like me we would need 3 planets. Scary.

On a much less serious note, Rose is obsessed with the Baby Beluga song. I have already sung it many times this morning... such is the life of a mama.

  • so I upgraded to Premium but I am not sure what it did for me. I think I can host my pictures now?

I discovered today that I lost 11 lbs through the gallbladdeer process. Sheesh! I could start a fad diet. Yes, folks, its only a minor surgery, The Gallbladder Diet!!

    Scary.

  • so, there is a blog revolution afoot!
my sister, Mandy, and my mama friend bigc, have brand new blogs! Woo!

In other news, I have a cold, and the baby slept until EIGHT this morning. Its a record.

I had a loooong talk with a friend about the state of the world last night. So sad, so sad. It is so much easier in real life, to talk about the hard stuff, no wonder we could never get it right on poor hipmama.

  • shit, i seem to have mailed our taxes with no signatures. ack! i went to try to get them back and the mail room guy laughed at me. kindly, but still. i will send another set with signatures and hope it all works out.

sigh. i am so so so so dum sometimes.

  • Ok then there's stuff like this: http://www.infobeat.com/articles5/news_world_5_041502.html.

what is wrong with this world anyways?

  • Back to Work...

So I was out of work for two weeks having my gallbladder trauma, and today is my first day back. Not so thrilling, had to get up early, the baby threw a fit (see previous comments on "object permanence"), the server was down all morning and they cancelled my afternoon meeting, the reason I did not just telecommute, *after* I got here! What fun.

We booked our tickets, etc for our family trip to Maui. I am excited, I need a real vacation. Taking time off work for emergency surgery does *not* count!

Wow, having a blog is so about *me*. Cool. ;)

Going back to work has another upside, I can listen to Democracy Now! on my way in. I love Democracy Now!, it makes me feel indignant and sometimes happy and at least connected. And I love Amy Goodman. She is so feisty. It was almost all about the Israeli occupation today of course, and there was this really sad story by this guy who was one of the first non military-escorted outsiders to get in to the Jenin refugee camp. Sigh. You can read all about it on their site, it just made me sad, and angry. But what's new about that?

  • we're over at my parents house and my preggo sister and her husband are here. my dad is cooking up his mighty fine polenta pizza! he does not eat wheat, so he gets creative with the corn.

rose is really getting into object permanence, she screams when you leave the room or take anything away. she stayed up untill **11:00** last night which was dreadful, but then she slept almost straight through till 7 this morning! all downs have upsides i suppose.

rose is trying all new foods now, she seems love love smoked salmon and goat cheese. that's my girl!

  • april 13, 2002

so here is my blog. what to say! rose's new achievement: she can butt-scooch all the way across the carpet. she is never gonna crawl, is she?

in other news, i am feeling a little better each day, health wise, i still have weird pains where my gallbladder was, but i expect that is normal.

still reeling in shock about the end of hipmama hiptalk, but hey, we can still be rebel moms, we are just a diaspora.

so, i am going to do this list thing...

My refrigerator is always stocked with
    soy milk
    hot sauce
soy sauce (not always in fridge)
    parmesan cheese
old bottles of breastmilk or formula rotting in the back somewhere
    tofu
    old green vegetables

The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning
look at my rosie girl, what a blessing

I can't go to sleep without checking
um, not much, i can go to sleep pretty damned easily

My favorite place to read is
    the tub.

    My favorite flower is
one that is blooming in my yard

The most used room in my house is
bedroom, we are forever in bed, we co sleep, we eat in bed, we are bedhogs

The color that makes me most happy
    blue and yellow. tie.

The work of art I'd most like to have in my home
i dunno, some statue of a gorgeous mama.

    My dream house is
a perfectly well running little victorian on the westside of santa cruz, or a super accesible light and lovely cabin in the woods.

A house is not a home unless
it has a lot of love in it. and some mess, somewhere.
